The Stone of Autism

Those who wear the Stone of Autism are the people who are affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). They may be the affected person, parents, family, friends, caregivers, therapists, or anyone whose life is touched by autism.

People affected by autism are very special and they need your love and compassion. Children with ASD may look like typically developing children, but they are very different on the inside. They have trouble processing what they see, hear, touch, and feel. ASD interferes with normal brain development, communication, behavior and social relationships. People with ASD are very sensitive to their environment and their behaviors are the manifestation of their frustration with not being able to communicate their needs effectively. Perhaps you have encountered a child with ASD or the parents of a child with ASD and didn't know it. Perhaps what you judged to be an out-of-control child or a parent unable to mange their child was actually something greater.

Families living with ASD are on one of the most difficult life journeys there is. No one knows what causes autism and there is no cure. It is a life-long developmental disability. Autism occurs in 1 out of every 166 births, so chances are your life will somehow be touched by autism. Despite its prevalence, most people are unaware of how much it impacts our society. People living with autism may also suffer from other disabilities as well including ADD/ADHD, depression, anxiety, and mental retardation. Can you imagine how difficult it must be to parent a child or adult child with ASD?

The Stone of Autism is worn to create more awareness of this devastating and mysterious disorder. It is worn to help bring to light that we need to be a more compassionate, caring, and supportive society to those whom society leaves behind. A purchase of the Stone of Autism will bring awareness to the world and comfort to those who are touched by ASD. A portion of proceeds from each sale will be donated to The Autism Society of NC, which serves more than 30,000 people living with ASD.
